Vestry Notes - May, 2018

Dan Mitchell

Vestry Highlights, May 21, 2018

The meeting opened with a reflection on the upcoming Sunday’s gospel passage.  Mike Martins presented the April Finance Report, noting that the revenue and expenses continues to follow the budget.  Tom McCauley noted that the contract will soon be signed to begin the roof leak repair in the foyer next to the Parish Hall stage that leads to the Cloister Garden.  He also noted that the Property Committee is reviewing contractor proposals to install new light fixture sconces and associated electrical work on either side of the Ridgewood Road entrance doors.

The vestry reflected on Father Poppe’s announcement that he will be accepting the Priest-in-Charge position at All Saint’s Church in Worcester, Massachusetts; his last service is anticipated to be on June 24th.  In recognition of Father Poppe’s 15+ dedicated years of service as well as time accrued, the vestry unanimously approved to continue funding his employment with full benefits to July 31st.  Father Poppe provided a general outline of the process to call a new rector as follows:

a.    The wardens meet with the Bishop to review the search process

b.    Bishop will make recommendations for interim rector.  (It was noted that supply priests might be provided during July and August.)

c.     A search committee will be formed compromised of vestry members and parishioners representing the demographics of the parish.

d.    The Diocese will provide a consultant to guide us through the search process, which could take 12 to 18 months.

e.    Search Committee will prepare a parish profile which is submitted to the Diocese for review and approval.

f.      The rector’s opening will be posted on various platforms.

g.    Search Committee will sift through the interested applicants to narrow the pool down.

h.    Written applications, skype interviews and personal interviews will be conducted.  Visiting applicants’ current parish could also be done if the logistics work out.

i.      Search Committee will narrow the pool down to 2 or 3 candidates to recommend to the vestry.

j.      The vestry will vote on the final candidates to determine who to call as Rector VIII.

Meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
