Vestry

The meeting opened with a prayer.  Mike Martins presented the May Finance Report and noted that the revenue and expenses continues to trend ahead of the budget, which puts the church in a strong financial position as we enter a time of transition.  Mike Martins announced that Bill Gardner will be stepping down as Finance Committee Chair due to relocation.  The vestry expressed its gratitude to Bill’s tenure and Neil Mark has agreed to step in as Chair.  Tom McCauley noted the new light fixture sconces have been installed at the church main entrance doors.  The vestry expressed its gratitude to Larry Jamison for his effort leading this project.  The vestry agreed to prepare an agreement to allow Bishop-elect Carlye Hughes’ husband to temporarily move into the vacant rectory from mid-July to mid-August in advance of the Bishop’s residence becoming available.  The Property Committee is seeking cost proposals for repairing and repainting the exterior of the Parish and Education Buildings.  The vestry agreed to co-sponsor a transgender forum entitled “Made in the Image and Likeness of God” to be held at Beth El temple on October 11, 2018 (National Coming Out Day).  Mike Martins noted that names are being collected to serve on the Parish Profile and Search Committees and a proposed slate will be presented at the July vestry meeting.  Tony Bousanti reviewed a letter of understanding considering the rector’s departure and Father Poppe read his official letter of resignation.  He shared personal reflections on his ministry at St. Georges, noting that he believed that a considerable amount of his life’s work as pastor and priest occurred during his tenure at St. George’s.   The vestry shared their own reflections.   The vestry reluctantly accepted his resignation.  Meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
