In partnership with the Stewardship and Outreach Committees, the Sunday School children were invited to bring a can good to church during our Fall Stewardship campaign to build a Tower of Sharing and Caring.
This can drive was seen as an opportunity to engage the entire family in thoughtful conversations about being grateful and how we might express our gratitude. God has called each of us, including our children, into a life of sharing and caring and we must provide our children with model of knowing the joy of sharing and giving back.
The Sunday School children enthusiastically responded and brought in 223 cans of food over 4 weeks! On the Sunday before Thanksgiving, Father Poppe invited the children to gather around for a special prayer of thanks for their contribution and to remind us that all that we have all and all that we are comes as gift from our generous God. The 223 cans will divided among the 3 food pantries that St. George’s continuously supports – Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Joseph’s Food Pantries in Maplewood and Holy Trinity Food Pantry in West Orange.
Our children continue to be an inspiration to us all!
