St. George's Youth Group rasied over $200 for the Our Lady of Sorrows Food Pantry. The dontation will used for healthy choice foods, including bananas.
Here is the text from the letter.
Dear Youth Group Members,
Thank you so much for raising funds from the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and donating them to fight hunger. The Food Pantry at Our Lady of Sorrows is so grateful for your support! I’d like to share with you how we are going to use your donation.
We are stressing healthy eating at our Pantry, which isn’t easy because most of our foods come in cans and boxes.
But, we believe that everyone should have access to healthy food. So we try to select the foods for the Pantry with the lowest amount of sugar and sodium and the highest amount of nutrients. Along those lines, we’re also adding fresh fruits and vegetables to our food packages. Our patrons love to receive fresh food.
One food that works so well for all ages is bananas. Our patrons much prefer receiving bananas rather than a can or two of fruit, as you can probably imagine. So, we are going to put the funds that you are donating towards the purchase of bananas for our patrons. We typically go to Trader Joe’s where bananas are a great bargain at 19 cents each. With your generous donation, so we should be able to buy enough bananas for several weeks.
About one-third of all the people who benefit from the food at the OLS Pantry are kids, so it’s very special that your generosity will help many people who are your own age.
Thank you again for your support of the OLS Food Pantry.
